The “Balajo” bage of Péniche Accueil is one of the only daytime welcome centers for homeless people in the Greater Lyon area. The venue welcomes, informs and counsels people in precarious situations and provides them with access to vital-necessity hygiene and medical care. On average, 73 people a day are welcomed on the barge, moored on the banks of the Saône river.
In July 2017, Péniche Accueil was the victim of a fire that seriously compromised its ability to welcome people. The Groupe SEB Fund is supporting Péniche Accueil in its process of reconstruction so that homeless people can once again come aboard.
